Brahmaputra Thermal Power Station

Operational Power Plant:

Our operational power plant stands as a symbol of commitment to reliable energy production, sustainable practices, and community development. Strategically located to serve the growing energy needs of the region, the plant is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to deliver efficient power generation while minimizing environmental impact.

With an installed capacity of 250 MW, comprising two units of 125 MW each, this coal-based thermal power plant has been a critical player in meeting the energy demands of the region since its commercial operations began in January 1982. We operate under the vision of addressing the growing electricity needs of the area while maintaining a balance between industrial growth, environmental responsibility, and community welfare. Over the years, it has played a significant role in illuminating homes, empowering industries, and supporting economic development in the region.

The Brahmaputra Thermal Power Station is more than a power plant—it is a vital institution driving progress, fostering sustainability, and empowering communities. With its focus on efficient operations, environmental care, and community engagement, BPTPS continues to play a pivotal role in India’s energy landscape, setting standards for excellence in the power generation sector.

Setting Benchmarks, Achieving Excellence:

BPTPS Sparks Local Innovation: A Power Plant with a Difference

1. Robust Infrastructure:
The plant is equipped with modern, robust infrastructure designed to ensure consistent energy generation and reliable supply to the regional grid. Its high Plant Load Factor (PLF) consistently ranks among the best in its category, reflecting its efficiency and dependability.

2. Advanced Thermal Technology:
BPTPS leverages cutting-edge boiler and turbine technologies to maximize the thermal efficiency of its operations. These systems are optimized for effective fuel combustion, minimizing energy losses during the generation process.

3. Efficient Resource Utilization:
Heat Recovery Systems: Waste heat generated during operations is repurposed for auxiliary processes, such as preheating boiler feedwater, thereby enhancing the overall thermal efficiency. Advanced systems ensure efficient coal combustion, reducing wastage and lowering operational costs.

4. Water Conservation and Management: Water is a critical resource in thermal power generation. BPTPS has implemented water recycling systems, reducing freshwater intake and ensuring sustainable operations. The plant's zero liquid discharge (ZLD) policy ensures no industrial effluent is released into the environment.

5. Emission Control: Equipped with Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) to control particulate matter emissions. Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems are used to minimize sulfur dioxide emissions, ensuring compliance with national and international environmental standards.
